Colonial Heights Fire Chief Retires After More Than 30 Years of Service

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) — Fire Chief T. Wayne Hoover of Colonial Heights Fire, EMS and Emergency Management is retiring after more than 30 years of service.

Hoover announced his retirement in a Facebook post from June 28 in which he looks back on his career with the city, where he served for 31 years.


“As I look back on my time at CHFD, I am incredibly proud of all we have accomplished together,” Hoover wrote. “Whether it was battling wildfires, helping our fellow citizens through a pandemic, or providing life-saving medical care, we stood together, united in our commitment to protect and serve those in need. Every call we answered, every life we ​​touched, reaffirmed the importance of the work we do and the difference we can make when we come together as a team.”

Hoover thanked those he worked alongside and said he will continue to cheer on Colonial Heights first responders from the sidelines as he settles into retirement.
