Albert Rusnák scores twice on PK after halftime to rally Sounders to 2-1 win over Fire

SEATTLE (AP) — Albert Rusnák scored two second-half penalty kicks and scored the winner in extra time to lift the Seattle Sounders to a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Fire on Saturday night.

Chicago (4-10-6) took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute and carried the game into halftime on a goal from Maren Haile-Selassie. Gastógiménez got his second assist of the season on Haile-Selassie's fourth goal.

The Sounders (7-7-7) tied the game early in the second half when Rusnák, who had scored just one goal this season before the game, scored in the 57th minute. The penalty kick came when Paul Rothrock, who replaced Alex Roldan early in the second half, called a foul on Chicago's Jonathan Dean following a video review.

Rusnák's winning goal came in the third minute of stoppage time on a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner of the net. Jordan Morris drew a foul on the Fire's Mauricio Pineda to earn the PK.

Stefan Frei finished the game with three saves in 10 minutes in goal for the Sounders. Chris Brady stopped four shots for the Fire. Both goalkeepers made one save in the first half.

The Fire beat the Sounders 1-0 at Soldier Field in Chicago in July 2022 in the most recent match.

Seattle had trailed by two goals in its last two games before coming back to draw 2-2 with the Dynamo in Houston and win 3-2 at home against FC Dallas.

The Sounders are 3-0-1 since a 1-0 road loss to Sporting Kansas City earlier this month.

The Fire have lost two games in a row after picking up wins against the Los Angeles Galaxy and Toronto FC to start June.

Chicago returns home Wednesday to host the Philadelphia Union. Seattle will host the New England Revolution on Saturday.
